Back to the mats! National teams battle for podium placements as the London Olympics fade to the background

The Senior World Championships in Strathcona County (a suburb of Edmonton) start this Thursday. I thought I should do a quick update of the progress of the national teams since London.

Congratulations to our age class teams who competed in Baku Azerbijian last month on the Cadet (U18 level). A special mention needs to be given to Braxton Papadopoulos for her bronze medal performance.

At the Junior Worlds in Thailand the success continued with Dorothy Yeats bringing home a Gold medal, and Braxton Papadopoulos and Justina Distasio narrowly missing the podium with 5th place performances.

It has been a quick turn around for many of the coaches and athletes within the national team program. Not really much time to relax and savor the London Olympic successes. In the weeks to come we will finish off the remainder of the 2012 championship season. Our women will wrestle in Edmonton this week followed by a group of men and women competing next week in Finland at the University World Championships.

Competing at the Senior Worlds:
48kg Ashley McKilligan
51kg Jessica MacDonald
55kg Brittanee Laverdure
59kg Michelle Fazzari

It should be very exciting to have the World Championships on home soil once again! I will blog through out the week as the event unfolds.
Stay tuned!
Go Canada!
